Boxing Results: Janibek Alimkhanuly Overwhelms Ngamissengue With Power

IBF and WBO middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly (17-0, 12 KOs) made easy work of little-known contender Anauel Ngamissengue (14-1, 9 KOs), knocking him out in the fifth round on Saturday night at the Barys Arena, Astana, in Kazakhstan.

The Finish

Janibek dropped Ngamissengue in the fifth round after connecting on two big lefts to the head. The referee waved it off after taking a good look at Ngamissengue after he’d gotten back to his feet.

It was a good fight between these two, as they’d exchanged a lot of heavy shots. The southpaw Janibek’s left hands were the difference. He had too much power in them for #7 IBF and #13 WBO Ngamissengue to handle.

Compared to his previous fights, Janibek got hit a lot more tonight than usual. One reason for that is he chose to fight in close, looking to exchange with his overmatched opponent. In first round, Janibek, 32, landed a big left to the head that put Ngamissengue down with left hand.

After that knockdown, Janibek fought like he had near fear of his Congo-born opponent and was willing to get in the trenches with him.

Adames or Lara?

With this victory, Janibek is ready to focus on fighting unification fights against the other two champions. These are the two champions that he will likely be targeting next:

• Carlos Adames – WBC
• Erislandy Lara – WBA

Of those two, Adames would be the more interesting due to the attention he’s received from his recent draw against Hamzah Sheeraz. However, it’s unlikely that Janibek will be able to fight Adames next if he chooses to face Hamzah in a rematch. If he’s available, that’s the guy he needs to face.

The 41-year-old Erislandy Lara (31-3-3, 19 KOs) has been around forever and is well known to hardcore boxing fans, who remember him for his fights against Canelo Alvarez, Paul Williams, and Vanes Martirosyan many years ago. Lara would be a tricky style for Janibek due to his southpaw style and slick boxing skills that he learned during his years on the Cuban national team many years ago. Lara has power as well as technical ability that could give Janibek big problems.
