Orlando, Florida – Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams (18-1, 12 KOs) defeated Patrice Volny (19-2, 13 KOs) by unanimous decision to capture the WBA Continental Americas middleweight title. All three judges scored it for Ammo (118-110, 116-112, 115-113) as he was the more active boxer.
Williams headlined his first boxing card and delivered as expected. Hearn liked what he saw from Ammo, “That was by far the best win of his career. Volny is a serious fighter, and it was the conditioning that came through for Ammo. The middleweight division is kind of dead. Right now, it has characters, personalities, and exciting fighters. He’s got it all, and I think it’s time in 2025 to see that man fight for the world middleweight title.”
Volny, a tall and lengthy boxer, posed a challenge with his high guard defense. It was Williams’ high volume attack that allowed him to land limitedly through Volny’s tough defense. “He had never been stopped before [Volny]. I was going for it, but my maturity told me I can’t go and get caught doing something, I learned from doing that. I had to beat him strategically,” said Ammo of his victory.

Williams captures his second win in four months. He’s now en route towards a world title and his personal progression will prepare him for it. He battled through personal challenges, losing his uncle while training for Hamzah Sheeraz. He was defeated by Sheeraz but learned greatly from the fight and is now completely focused on his career. With his wife expecting their first child, his drive to win has only increased. His conditioning significantly improved from his last two fights. He was very active from the opening bell, up until the 12th round, where he threw a fight high 81 punches.
In the co-main event Edgar Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) made quick work of Jonathan Gonzalez Ortiz (20-1-1, 16 KOs) defeating him by technical knockout in the 1st round, becoming the WBO NABO super middleweight champion. “I know that boxing is not an easy sport, and especially with him [Gonzalez-Ortiz], he’s coming to fight me. I got to be alert. I have to be smart, and I went in there and handled business,” said Berlanga of his victory.
After the fight, both Eddie Hearn and Berlanga made it known they’re looking for a big fight against Caleb Plant. Berlanga lead a chant saying, “F*ck Plant, F*ck Plant.” Berlanga becomes a free agent and stated he and Eddie are on good terms and expects to work with him still in the future. There appears to be great fan interest in a possible Berlanga-Plant fight and the bad blood between the two makes it that much more interesting. Caleb took to Twitter (X) and criticized Berlanga for being overweight and for his chant producing very little fan participation.
