Derek Chisora posted WBA, WBC, and WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk on social media today, hinting that he wants to fight him next in “London, United Kingdom.”
Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) wants a rematch with Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) because he says he felt he deserved to win their fight four years ago on October 31, 2020 at Wembley Arena in London. Usyk won that fight by a close 12-round unanimous decision with scores of 115-113, 115-113, and 117-112.
Another Payday for Chisora?
Chisora named Usyk along with Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, as the three fighters he’s interested in fighting. He says he’s not interested in fighting Martin Bakole when he was mentioned as an option. Chisora just wants the big fights, which has very little chance of getting.
Derek is already quite wealthy, with an estimated fortune of $15 million. It’s not like he needs money, but he wants that fight. Even if Usyk or Joshua did give Chisora the payday fight he’s craving, it likely wouldn’t be the end. He’ll likely keep trying to hustle other fighters far above his talent level to fight him.
It’s forlorn the way Chisora is pressuring Usyk for a fight because it’s NOT going to happen. There’s no interest from fans in paying to see Usyk outclass the old British journeyman Chisora with his 13 defeats and no significant wins ever in his career.
Chisora took a lot of punishment to the head in his 12-round decision win over Otto Wallin last Saturday night. His face was badly swollen after. Although the facial damage was blamed on a clash of heads, that was a bunch of hogwash.
Wallin’s punches had done that to Chisora. The 41-year-old Chisora was a walking punching bag, eating headshots like they were candy. It was the perfectly picked opponent for Derek to beat because Wallin is not a big puncher and isn’t one of the top-tier-level heavyweights in the division. Interestingly, British media made a big deal about Chisora’s win, viewing it as heroic rather than a classic example of careful matchmaking.
